SEATTLE ‘CHILLWAVE’ PROFILED BY THE STRANGER

Stranger writer Eric Grandy takes a look at Seattle’s rising electronic pop artists who have been labeled nationally as ‘Chillwave.’ The article singles out local artists, USF, Big Spider’s Back and Alaskas and discusses the fleeting nature of genre tags in the internet’s speedy hype cycle. “Genres used to last whole decades,” says USF member Kyle Hargus. “And it’s like, it’s been three months. It doesn’t have room to grow the way, say, disco or other genres of past decades could grow and meander and become new things.
